Examination

Deadline for registering for the exam:

  • September 1 (autumn)
  • January 15 (spring)
  • July 15 (new/postponed exam for exams from the spring semester)
  • February 1 (new/postponed exam for exams from the autumn semester)

Students must register for exams themselves in Studentweb.

Deadline to withdraw from the exam

  • 2 weeks before the exam

Students who withdraw from the regular exam do not have access to the next new/postponed exam. They must wait until the next regular exam. Withdrawal from the exam is done via the student web.

Coursework and mandatory attendance

To be eligible to take an exam, all associated coursework and mandatory attendance must be completed. See the relevant course plan for more information.

Individual adaptation on exams

You can apply for individual adaptation of an examination if you have a disability, an illness or other special needs.

Contact the exam office for more information and to apply.

Application deadline:

  • 1. October (fall semester)
  • 1. February (spring semester)

Absence from exam

If you are absent from the exam due to illness, you must submit a doctor's note or other relevant documentation no later than three (3) working days after the last exam day/submission deadline.

If you do not submit documentation on time, the absence will be considered invalid, and the exam result will be recorded as "not attended." Invalid absence counts as one of a total of three exam attempts in the subject. Students with invalid absence from the regular exam are not entitled to take a new/postponed exam and must wait until the next regular exam is held.

Requirements for documentation for valid absence from exams

A doctor's note must include information about the period it covers and an assessment of whether the illness affected the student's ability to take the exam.

The documentation must be signed and stamped by an authorized entity and  delivered to the reception on DMMHs campus in Trondheim.

New/postponed exam

If you did not pass the exam or have valid absence at the regular exam, a new/postponed exam will be arranged in the subject. This normally does not apply to practical exams, which are only held as regular exams. You can find the dates for all exams in the exam schedule at the top of the page.

To take a new/postponed exam, you must register for this exam on Studentweb by the applicable deadline.

Number of exam attempts

You can take the same exam a maximum of three times. If you still haven't passed an exam after three attempts, it is possible to apply for a fourth and final exam attempt. Such applications are only granted in special cases, and you must pay an exam fee. You apply for this by sending an email to studieveiledning@dmmh.no.

Valid absence from the exam does not count as an exam attempt.

Improvement of grades

Improvement of grades normally occurs during the regular exam. However, if a new/deferred exam is to be arranged (due to students who are entitled to a new/deferred exam), you can contact eksamen@dmmh.no to register for grade improvement also for the new/deferred exam.

When retaking an already passed exam, you must pay an exam fee. The semester fee for the current semester must also be paid.

If the same exam is taken multiple times, the best grade applies.

If you no longer have an active study right, but wish to improve your grade, you must contact eksamen@dmmh.no

There is no opportunity to improve a passed bachelor's or master's thesis.
